Hydroxyl ion (OH) generation is an advanced disinfecting and sanitizing technology initially invented by NASA and is used in the International Space Station (ISS). It is not as potent as Ozone generators for remediation purpose but is safe to use in occupied spaces.

Hydroxyl ion technology disinfectant and sanitizing method uses hydroxyls to sanitize air and surfaces by a natural process called lysing. Hydroxyls react chemically with the lipids, protein carbohydrates and other organic chemicals in cell walls and membranes of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens, disrupting their structure. This process results in an active hydroxyl gas that is able to sanitize the air, as well as hard and soft surfaces.

Hydroxyls are produced in combination with sunlight (UV) to produce these sanitizing agents, known as nature’s disinfectant. They are referred to as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), a collective term that includes hydroxyls (OH), peroxyl (RO2), and hydroperoxyl (HO2) that are formed in nature in the lower atmosphere (stratosphere).

A hydroxyl generator is a device that uses UV-C to remove odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), virus particles, and bacteria particles from the air. You simply need to plug in and turn on the device, and it will go to work immediately, cleaning the air.
